We arrived at Camp Sumatanga in Gallant, Alabama on Saturday, 9/26. The camp has been closed since March, 2020 due to Covid 19 so there is not a lot of money for repairs that NOMADS usually handle on these projects but there is still a lot of work.
There were briars and saplings to be removed,
a lot of generalized trimming
grass
and leaves to be cut.
Trimming everywhere
on the grounds
to be hauled away
and cleanup from the cutting.
Some worked on repairing the playground,
others cleared & removed rotted fence that was no longer needed.
Rain interfered so we all headed to one of the cabins at the pool camp to clean and paint all the walls
which meant moving all the beds
to the center of the rooms.
Everyone got a chance to paint,
one place,
or another,
or another.
After that job was over, and the rain cleared, we were told that a wedding was planned at
the Chapel which is on top of the mountain overlooking the camp.
The road into the Chapel was totally overgrown so we were asked to "open it up".
Some trimmed,
some mowed,
others cut trees
and bushes.
The wedding is over so we picked up the chairs from the chapel and moved onto the final project which was to clean up
the labyrinth across the lake.
It needed a lot of attention
and a lot of hand work was involved
but it started to look better.
Some worked on creating
a sign for it.
The
final
product.
Our work here for this year is done.
