Week 3 in Tucson

As we begin week 3, Midge adds final paint touches to Bumble Bee and Duck while

Avis & Cindy second coat the swing sets and

Bub and Steve make final adjustments to the choir loft gates.

Meanwhile, Gary and Stel begin sanding the communion rail and

they are joined by Barb and

and then by Avis while Stel sands the 330 communion cup holders.

Then Bub joins in on sanding and

is joined by Steve and

Avis and Stel clean up all that sanding dust.

Meanwhile, Barb has already applied poly to the choir loft gates and

Gary has gone back to installing towell holders

and Denny is replacing broken boards on the School Bus.

Gary then salvages parts to hang the new swing seats and

Bub begins hanging them.

Back in the sanctuary, Barb, Stel, Avis and Steve apply the first coat of polyeurothene.

After replacing the floor boards, Denny checks for rough spots and Avis begins painting the floor.

The finished product is quite an improvement.

The last of the playground toys gets a new coat of paint.

The new swingseats are all installed and the cheery colors brighten the refurbished playground.

Avis, Bub and Denny reinstall the last of the refinished cabinet doors.

The church had ordered a giant dumpster from the city and on Tuesday, we set out to clean up the grounds, especially making major pruning of those super thorny Mesquite trees.

Bub, Avis and Stel clean up debris from the previous playground trees.

Steve, Cindy, Gary, Bub, Denny the Pastor and Ramon cut up the limbs to fit into the dumpster.

Midge and  Barb clean out the dead material from the front shrubs.

Meanwhile, we left Jack in the sanctuary to run wires in the attic for the front lights on the church and to finish the installation of the fans before the heat of the afternoon arrived.

After lunch, Midge and

Barb resand the communion rail for another coat of poly.

One last toy needs to be fixed.  Gary and Bub inspect this damaged wheel to determine how best to remove it.

Stel & Bub begin dismantling it

and Bub removes parts from the old wheel to attach the new wheel.

Did I say one last toy to fix?  Here's Avis repairing this hinged door for the plastic playhouse.

Now that the choir loft gates are poly'd, Bub and Steve install them

and they are ready to go.
We had previously determined that this tire has to go from the playground so Bub, Gary, Stel and Steve set out to tow it away

and here it goes

and here is its new home

and Cindy refills the hole left by the tire.

The potential future tenants of the Education Building provided paint and we are asked to do the honors so Denny gets started.

There are six rooms to paint on this last minute project so nearly everyone gets involved.

And one final photocell light gets installed & the switch for power gets replaced by Steve and Bub.

One final addition to the playground is this sun to cover the area where we ran out of paint.  Avis painted the sun and Midge does the artistry of the "rays".

And this is the final result

After finishing the wiring in the sanctuary, Jack and Bub began repairing mowers & trimmers and Jack begins mowing

Bub does some trimming

Along with Jodi.

This is our last day but it's also Barb's birthday wo we celebrate it and then...

Farewell to Santa Clara UMC
