Mission to Lydia Zion UMC, Jordan, Minnesota

We arrived at Lydia Zion UMC in Jordan, Minnesota on Saturday, 8/6/16.  We are here to help the church with the construction of the addition to their church.

This is the original entry of the church sanctuary
Same original structure from another view.
This is the new addition and a portion of the new parking lot.
Our NOMADS rigs surround the parking lot here...
and here.  Six rigs in all with 12 workers.
This is the inside of the new structure as it looked when we arrived.
One of the offices in the new structure.
The vestibule.
Painting is among the first tasks but we have to figure out what goes where.  Here are Bev, Celia, Barb and Roger working with the designer to figure it out.
Meantime, Stel is marking where the studs are so that we know where the suspended ceiling goes after the painting is done
Bev and Jodi help mark the floor so that baseboards can be attached later.
Mike running the scissor scaffold.  He gets to use all the fun tools!
Mike painting the vestibule ceiling.  Now this part is not so much fun.
Ruth Ann painting the lower part of the vestibule.
Roger using an old time scaffold (step ladder) to paint the upper wall.
Celia painting walls with Ruth Ann in tag-team.
Steve trying his hand at painting with a sprayer.
Coleen painting walls
Bev doing the "cutting in".
Roger gave up on the ladder and is painting with a very long pole.
Jack has been doing all kinds of "odd" jobs as leader of the project and we finally caught up with him patching the wall after the plumber fixed a leak.
Dave is working on the old section of the building which is the access for the new addition.  When they tore out walls to make access, it left uneven flooring.  He is tearing out some of the old flooring to make ready for new subfloor.
Stel joined in to help with the "knee" work.
And now, Dave and Stel install the new subfloor.
Teamwork is a must.  Stel holds and Dave glues.
Dave is constructing a temporary fake floor over this stairway so we can use a ladder to paint the upper walls.
Jack assists with the engineering of this stair cover.
That Dave really gets under his work.
Barb can't resist helping build the stair cover.
And now, Stel is able to paint above the stairs.
How's come Stel got this part of the job?
Now Ruth Ann gets to use the stair cover to paint the celing.
Stel & Ruth Ann team up to complete this section of painting.
Dave and Roger are setting up the miter saw to prepare to cut metal framing for the suspended ceiling.
Mike,  Dave and Jack planning the layout of the suspended ceiling in the bathrooms.  Really dark back here.
Jack and team installing the ceiling grid.
Barb and Celia are preparing to make a work area to begin staining the wood trim.
Coleen and Jodi make a great team with the staining.
No one gets Jodi's picture so she creates a "selfie".
Stel and Ruth Ann are adding leveling compount to the edge of the new subfloor where it connects with the new addition in preparation for later installing of carpet.
At the other end, Ruth Ann removes carpet tack strip so we can fill in that transition.
At the end of the work week, the church threw a potluck dinner for the NOMADS and we were able to use the new meeting room that we had painted all week.
The place looks really different after only 4 days of painting.
It was exciting for the church members to see their new space.
A good crowd, wonderful food and fellowship.  Time to wrap up the week and rest up for the next.
