Bastrop, Texas - Disaster Recovery Project

We had 11 team members on our first week in Bastrop.  Left to right are Nancy and Woody, Jodi & Stel, Sara, Virgie and Dan, Nula & Dan and Lerene and Cliff. 

We all worked on the same house, Archie and his wife  lost there home in a fire.  He and some friends built a replacement shell but then he lost heart.  He is a "handy man" who is also going to school to become a minister.  NOMADS have been working at this house for a while putting on siding, skirting, drywall and skirting, flooring, kitchen cabinets, etc.  When we arrived, we finished building the front deck and built a new deck in the rear.

Nancy helped with painting the shelves, doors and trim.

And so did Jodi.

Dan, Virgie and Woody installed the new  microwave.

Dan, Stel and Virgie laid laminate in the "occupied" bedroom.

Dan and Nula installed the countertop in the kitchen under the direction of leader Dan.

There were nine of us on the second week.  Eldon and Linda (3&4 from the left) replaced  Woody & Nancy and Dan & Virgie headed home after 4 weeks of leadership.  Cliff and Lerene are the new leaders (3&4 from the right).

Since the plumbing has not been installed, we HOPE that Sara is caulking the trim and vanity we previously installed.

At various times, Cliff, Dan, Stel & Eldon installed baffles and insulation in the attic.  All wondered not so secretly why this was not done BEFORE the drywall was installed.

"Disaster" Dan on the right is in charge of the Bastrop disaster projects.  He and his wife lost everything but the clothes on their backs and 2 years later, he still tears up saying "I thought I was over this."  It is important that Cliff takes time to listen to Dan's story.
