Final week in Odem, Texas

Monday was extremely cold and windy and too cold for work on Gracie's roof.  Gary, Avis and Stel did return to Richard and Petra's house.

About 3 hours work and all the window

and door trim are completed.

Tuesday was still cold but late morning the sun came out and we returned to Gracie's to set up scaffold so we can replace the rotted facia board we removed earlier.

While Jane, Dave and Barbara cut the new facia board, Stel and Cindy remove old nails and prepare to install the new board.

The 17 foot long board is raised up on the roof

and carried to the gable end of the house where Dave, Stel, Cindy

and Jane installed it using clamps and impact drivers

next Cindy and Stel installed the new drip edge

with assistance from Jane.

Cindy installs the last strip of drip edge.

Dave and Barbara had been leveling the steps and addiding hand rails and now Stel is sanding off all the sharp edges.

This end of the house had a big area with no siding so we are adding this piece of plywood temporarily to protect the house from the elements.

Back at the church, Bob and

Jim are finalizing the drain and water connections for the shower and washer.
With the cold weather, Jane

and Chic are finishing the wall that surrounds the shower and water heater.

Late morning on Thursday, the weather had warmed up and Stel, Dave, Cindy, Jodi and Barbara returned to Gracie's to install the roll roofing on the porch.

First we install starter strips around 3 sides and loosen shingles so we can run the new roof underneath the shingles.

At the end of the day, the porch roof is completed and we have done all we can do for now.  We are hoping some other volunteers will be able to re-roof the main house soon.

Meanwhile, Gary and Avis completed the steps at Richard's house and added a handrail.

Then they caulked all the joints and seams on the siding and this project is done.  Next year, NOMADS will probably put siding on the north end of the building. Until then, it's off to Baton Rouge for Stel and Jodi.
