We headed back to Independence, Mo. to visit the home and Library and Museum of former president Harry Truman.
The home was built by Bess's grandfather and Harry and Bess lived there with Bess's mother after they got married. Harry only received ownership of the house upon the death of his mother-in-law. |
Just a few blocks east of the house is the Presidential Museum and Library. |
It is a large and beautiful facility. |
It is quite interesting and we enjoyed the visit there. |
We then travelled further east and stopped at the Corps of Engineers camp at Indian Creek on Mark Twain Lake. |
This is a truly gorgeous facility and very quiet and peaceful... |
as Jodi and Imoto can attest. |
We are pretending to be actually camping out here so we need to cut some firewood for cooking our dinner. |
We did have lots of company including deer, |
turkeys, |
squirrels, |
and many more deer. |
There was a large marina here |
with lots of boats... |
and water beggers. |
There were also beautiful flowers |
and hiking trails with outstanding views. It was wonderful to rest for a few days. |
Then it's on east to Hannibal, MO, the home of Samuel Clemmens AKA Mark Twain. |
This is allegedly the home of Huck Finn |
or so we are told based on the childhood antics of Sam Clemens. |
This is supposed to be the fence that Tom Sawyer had painted. |
The whole town is pretty much committed to the stories spun by Mark Twain |
The week is over so we cross the river into Illinois and head to our next project. More about that in the next episode. |
