Week 8 in Baton Rouge

Our Team for Week 8 from the left are Max and Anne (returned for another workout), Stel & Jodi, Lisa and Mark (also returned for another workout) and Carole and Dave, team leaders.  Jodi is not going to the worksite these days but she remains a part of the team.

Dave is sanding and prepping the master bath for painting and Lisa begins painting the walls in the old section

and the new section.

Stel repairs a seam in the ceiling of the master bedroom.

Anne sanding drywall in bedroom 2 closet and

then applies primer.

Stel mudding second coat on joints in bathroom and

then appplies texture to the ceiling.

Mark is mudding joints in bedroom 2 ceiling with Dave overwatching.

Mark and Carole begin applying texture to bedroom 2 ceiling and Anne keeps the supply of mud available by mixing and filling paint trays.

The final look of texture process and

the final look of Mark after texturing.

Lisa moves on into the Master bedroom to paint while

Max and Dave install Luan in preparation for floor coverings.

Max's first attempt at using leveling compound to smooth out doorway transitions for floor covering and

he learns how quickly it gets hard.

Lest we think we will have nothing to do, the coordinators show up with some supplies

and a whole skid of vinyl click tile for the floors.  Something to look forward to.

Lisa has moved into the living room and dining area to paint

and then moves into the kitchen

Max has installed light fixtures and smoke detectors

and Dave installs outlets.

Since the siding is complete, we tear down the scaffolding for return to the Disaster Response Center.

On our final night on week 8, the church threw a pot luck dinner for all the NOMADS and the Volunteer in Missions crew from Colorado.  It was a good time of food and fellowship.

See you next week.

weeks 5-7 Baton Rouge, LA

On Saturday, 4/14, we were awakened by our cell phones announcing a tornado alert in our area and instructing us to take shelter immediately.  So the five of us who were still on site along with our 6 dogs took shelter in the church building for an hour or so.  Exciting times for us Yankees.

On Monday, we returned to work on Richard and Sandy's house with Dan and Bob installing more drywall in Bedroom 1 and

Gene installing insulation in Bedroom 2

along with Carolyn and Stel .

Jodi, Susanne

Linda and Suzanne return to installing siding and soffit and facia.

The next day, part of the group went to another house to install ceramic tile and Suzanne and Dan try their hand in this bedroom.  The whole house is to get tile

including this small closet.

Bob cut all the tile while

Stel put it into place along with

Carolyn.

Next week, more tile installing with Carole and Heather joining this crew

and Gene took over cutting the tile.

The homeowner, Wren, helped clean the grout lines as did

Carolyn

and Carole.

Then began the grouting process.

Then the big day arrived when Jodi came home from the Hospital and was greeted by the team leader and

the whole crew celebrated at devotions the next day.

Then it was back to grouting for Carole

and Heather

and cleaning water and sponges for Gene

and more grouting for Carolyn

and Stel.

At the end of week 6 this part of the crew celebrated with the homeowner.  Back row from the left are Gene, Heather and Linda.  Front row are Carolyn, Janice (homeowner), Stel and Carole.

The whole crew gathers at the end of week 6.  From the left are Linda, Bob, Carole, Dave, Stel, Paula, Ken, Suzanne, Mike, Carolyn, Heather and Gene.

It's late April and most Snowbird NOMADS are headed back north so the crew for week 7 has dwindled to 6.  From the left are Mike, Lee, Suzanne, Stel, Carole and Dave with these last 2 being the leaders.

On Monday of week 7, we all returned to Richard and Sandy's house and we could see the transformation  by the other half or our crew as all the siding has been installed.

There is one section of soffit to install so Suzanne heads up the ladders once more

and Suzanne and Lee complete the soffit.

Inside, Dave and Stel are constructing a new wall to adjust the location for the bathtub drain

and are fitting it into place.

Mike and

Lee learn a little about mudding
while Suzanne sands and muds the bath in bedroom 1

and Carole assesses what areas are ready for paint.

We were able to do the primer coat on Bedroom 1 before weeks end and had finished installing the sheetrock in bedroom 2 and apply mud as well.  Fewer hands to supply pics but you get the idea.

More to come next week.
